Many people regard Christianshavn as the Amsterdam of the North. House boats lie side by side with cobbles and old leaning houses. This part of town was build by King Christian IV who dreamed of bringing Copenhagen into the elite of European capitals. Thus he turned this district into the largest construction site ever to be seen in Denmark for centuries to come.
